In September 2019, Afrofuturist Podcast host Ahmed Best led group playtests for Afro-Rithms from the Future, a card-driven storytelling game developed by AFPC co-creator Lonny J. Avi Brooks and game designer Eli Kosminsky, at BSAM.LA, in Leimert Park (photos here), and at Game Haus Cafe.

The event was one in a series of a playtests — participatory experiments in political optimism, drawing largely from contemporary research and strategies for long-term forecasting and game design to encourage players to proactively imagine and address challenges, to conceive of multiple paths forward, and/or simply to re-examine how one envisions one’s future at present.

Many thanks to Shannon “Ziggzaggerz” Theus, Ben Caldwell and KAOS Network, Alyssa Damore, and tobias c. van Veen on making this series a success!
